Rule Number 1 – Don’t Piss Off the Linda Hamilton Fans

The internet is a big, scary place.  I recently posted what I thought was a review of “Home By Christmas” which is a Lifetime Original Movie starring Linda Hamilton.  I pointed out that she looked a little rough in it, along with some comments on the crapulence of the film.

Well.  This is a website, lovingly yet sporadically maintained by me in some incarnation or another since 2007, and I’ve cracked on many celebrities, many Lifetime Original Movies, and many other things since then.  I’ve never gotten more than 40 visits in one day.  Yesterday I had a large contingent of the Linda Hamilton Fan Club stop by to spill a little haterade on my page.  And I published the comments, because what I said pissed them off and I’ve never not published a not-spam comment and I’m not going to start now.  Go take a look at the comments, especially one by Monica, where the girl says she can kick my ass.

Somebody else suggested the name of this blog should be “Sometimes About Horse’s Arses” and to that I respond with two comments.  1) right now it is.  And 2) that domain name is already taken.  Just kidding about the second one.  I didn’t check.  Being that I am not the power-crazed fun-poker you make me out to be (I am a powerless fun-poker, thank you very much) I feel like I’ve apologized enough.

That all being said – where were the rabid Jeremy Sisto fans when I posted this gem?  Only one?

Also, I never thought about pissing off people’s fans as a blog concept.  I made a comment, and internet MAGIC happened.  I might stop doing all my charity work, stop being nice to everyone I meet, and start writing mean things FULL TIME.  That’s what over-the-top fandom does to me.  Who should be my next victim?

I Write Things Elsewhere As Well

My favorite blogger ever, The Bloggess, does this little post at the end of each week to show where else her writing has appeared during that week.  Because she has such a rabid following that her readers want to know what she’s doing ALL THE TIME.  I am not personally in that situation (ahem) but thought at the end of the month I’d just do a little reflection, and link to all the posts I’ve done on other blogs throughout the month.  So, here is November, in a bloggy nutshell.

nutshellI wrote about smallpox and new guinea laughing disease on Bizarre Medical.  One freaked me out way more than the other.  Can you guess which?

I wrote about Carytown Burgers & Fries on Richmond VA Presents.  Now I want a burger.  Damn.

I wrote about co-worker gifts, World of Warcraft bloggers, free wallpaper sites, Harry Potter fan sites, and gluten-free recipe sites on Very Best Sites.

I wrote about Steven Warrick and his fabulous art, and about a funny Harry Potter comic he did, as well as some yoda art, some sexy women, and some barfy cute animals on Bizarre Bytes.

I waxed poetic about my Le Crueset pot on The Cool Consumer, and posted way too many recipes to link to on Crock Pot Ninja.

I’ve also been working my toukas off on mine and Angelica’s Independent Study about J.D. Salinger.  Check it out!

That’s about all that’s available online right now, other than the posts I’ve posted here, which you should have already read, and if you didn’t it’s not that hard to go into “recent posts” (which I’m not even gonna link to) to read them.  Plus, you read them.  You LIKE Naked Cowboys.

Stay tuned for a Friday rant of epic proportions, and for a Monday update on Alligator Fish Pig and other fascinating topics.

Comments are Spammy Fun

I hope spam comments are an indication that a website is getting traffic.  If it is, the The Cool Consumer is rolling!  We get spam comments all the time!  Mostly they’re those “tired of getting useless traffic on your website?” *uh, yeah* ones, or the ones who are all, “want to know how to make $5000 per day on the internet?” *for sho, fool!* and those are obviously spam.  My favorites are the ones who actually talk about the posts, while it’s obvious that they are posted by a bot and didn’t, in fact, read the post at all.

This one just came in on the “About Micah” page of TCC:

“Hey man, was just browsing by means of the world wide web searching for some information on this and came across your blog. I am very impressed by the info that you just have here. It shows how well you comprehend this. Bookmarked this page for further reading, will come back for more. btw,do you have any suggestions for weight loss options for children?”

If this was a real comment my response would be something like “feed them less.”  But since it isn’t, I decided to share this with you.

Another time, we got spam comments from this website called youngjeezylosemymind, saying that they didn’t understand the information put forth in the post.  Since that was on the “About Micah” page, and since Micah is the only one of any of us who had ever HEARD of Young Jeezy, that was pretty ironic and funny.  Incidentally, that youngjeezylosemymind website wanted me to login, play a game, and then it crashed my internet.  “Lose my mind” indeed.

comments

That middle yellow one?  That “Only God” link, when you run your mouse over it, shows you that it goes to oneallah.net, which I am afraid to click on, because I fear that I will be put on some list that questions my patriotic nature or something.  The body of the comment says:

“Okay article. I merely discovered your website and wished to say I’ve actually enjoyed reading your ideas. By any implies I’ll be subscribing for your feed and I really hope you write-up yet again quickly….”

I did a site search to see what kind of content was on OneAllah, and here you go:

Site Search for One Allah

So, in addition to learning about someone’s opinion as to the one true God, you can learn how to care for your fish pond, and buy a sofa set, and get your man to stay with you.  I still didn’t go to the site.  I like having little mysteries in my life.

Now to my regularly scheduled panic about not getting enough work done.
